happy birthday to you Virginia!

It has taken me for-EVER to decide on a birthday card design for Virginia. I have come to admire her work through the Hero Arts flickr group...she makes great cards and always has something nice to say. The picture above is of her first published card (isn't that cotton candy sweet?) I enjoy reading her blog to see her latest creations, fun photos of her family, and reading the funny comments from Dr. John. I thought it would only be appropriate to make a card that is a little over the top to celebrate this milestone birthday. So here's to you Virginia...50 and fabulous! Hope it makes you smile. 

It's hard to see in the photo but the numbers are shiny. To make the numbers, I cut them out with the number die, then covered them with black soot Distress Stain and some Perfect Pearl water to give them some shine.

the championing award medallions challenge (another one)

Another card for the Championing Award Medallions Challenge over on Moxie Fab World. The challenge is to create a paper crafted project (card, gift bag, tag, layout, home decor item, mini-book cover, etc.) that incorporates a three-dimensional medallion or award medallion in an innovative way.

I don't know how innovative this is, but I really like it. I thought this medallion (made of foil origami paper) would be perfect for a New Year's Card. I wanted to make a multicolor medallion using all the colors in the package, so I had to make my own "paper". For this card I used the Tim Holtz Paper Rosette die. To make my multicolor paper, I cut the paper into strips and pieced it together in the back with washi tape to hold it together.

Just playing along with the Championing Award Medallions Challenge over on Moxie Fab World. I absolutely love the look of medallions, but don't always think to make them. 

I have had this little book around for a while, just waiting to be decorated. I thought it would make a great little travel journal for a visitor. 

If you look closely, you can see that the paper my medallion is made of a subway map.

Add a little $1 souvenir button, and you are all set!

Another Christmas card using some of the techniques that have been covered this week in Holiday Card Boot Camp.  I have had so many ideas after reading the lessons for this week, I can't wait for the work week to be over so I can spend some time at the craft table this weekend. Here is a card I made last night using my new favorite holiday Distress Ink color, Evergreen Bough.  Hope you are planning some crafty fun this weekend! 

the best way to spread christmas cheer

If you have seen the movie Elf, then you know all about this sentiment. I thought it would go perfectly with the paper from the Holly Jolly Christmas Pad from Echo Park. Hope it brings you a little cheer today!

Elf is one of my favorite Christmas movies, I could watch it all year long. If you have never seen it, be sure to put it on your holiday to do list. It is sure to bring you a lot of laughs.

holiday card boot camp (another sketch)
