do what you love...make who you are

I have been collecting quotes that I like for a while on my Pinterest board, and came across this great Lisa Congdon print with a great quote last week. I knew that this quote would make it into my art journal pages. Lots of texture in the gesso and a wonderful teal color to make the red and orange hearts really pop. Those letter stamps? One of my favorite letter sets from Amy Tangerine. Cutting all of those letters out was very theraputic :)

featured on n*Studio today!

So happy to be featured on the N*Studio blog today. When I bought these mixed media stamps designed by Nathalie Kalbach for Stampendous, I knew I would definitely be using them to make some cards. I love the great shapes and designs on these sets and really think they work well for so many projects. I hope you'll stop by her blog and take a peek at the cards I've made using these stamps! 

it's a love fest!

There's a Love Fest going on over at Splitcoaststampers! So many fun challenges and prizes to be won, and today a new challenge sponsored by Simon Says Stamp is introduced. 

What is it exactly? Splitcoaststampers says:

"The Love Fest challenges are for fun, to introduce you to friendly, new faces and say hi to old friends. she was a freaky little thing

This So Freaky stamp was one of my favorite finds last year. I used it to teach a class and was not sure how it would be received...but everyone seemed to love it!

I have been getting started in art journaling and was lucky enough to take class one in a series of classes taught at The Ink Pad by the fabulous Nathalie Kalbach using some of her awesome new stamps. We learned how to make backgrounds with brayers and how to incorporate stamped images on our pages. I wanted a little practice before the next class so I made this bold background with a freaky fashion image. No journaling yet...but I think it would look great with a white pen.

It's time for my Medium of the Month post over at A Blog Named Hero today. Hope you'll stop on over and take a peek at the fun cards and techniques I have to share with you! 

simon says stamp wednesday challenge: have a heart

 

Time for a new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog. This week's challenge is Have a Heart and the design team is featuring fabulous Simon Says Stamp exclusive stamps and dies. There are so many great hearts and words, I had to use 3 different products on my card: the Big Love You Die, the Large Hearts Die and the Drawn Heart Background stamp.  I also used Simon's new Sea Glass ink and cardstock...such a wonderful color. 

To make the Big Love You die cut, I cut out the die on watercolor paper and colored it with Distress Stains that had been swiped on my craft sheet. Once it was dry I glued it on top of about 4 layers of the same die cut out it black cardstock to make it pop.

Time for a new tag from Tim. His February tag features so many fun techniques, including one of my favorites-stencils! I think I still need a bit of practice with the chalkboard, but I love the look it gives to the tag. I added a little more pink than red to mine...I like girly Valentines :)

If you have not checked out Jenn Shurkus's blog or etsy shop before, you definitely should stop by and take a peek. Jenn has been a crafty friend for several years now and I love that we are able to see each other a few times a year to take crafty classes together. I am thrilled to be particpating in her hop, and she has 14 days of fantastic and inspirational designers lined up to show you projects to celebrate Valentine's day. I am primarily a card maker, but over the years I have taken some "artsy fartsy" classes from Jenn, and we have taken some classes together and I have enjoyed each and every one of them. 

I recently got a gelli plate and have been having a great time making print after print after print. I thought I'd share a few cards with you today that feature parts of prints I made in Valentine's colors and a little look at my printmaking process. 

Here is a card with a simple printed background: 

I love the texture I got by scraping into the paint on my gelli plate:
