Another month blew by and another Tim Tag of 2015 was made at the last minute. I do have to say it took me a few tries to get this technique down (I was definitely using too much Distress Glaze!). Summer to me just screams ice cream and I made a trio of ice creams in yummy summer colors for this tag. I may have gone overboard with the stars too...but I love them.

This week we are using anything but regular paper over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I am playing with my current obsesssion - the Tim Holtz Metallic Kraft Core Paper. This paper is so fun to die cut, emboss or sand with. I have even painted on it.
I die cut a mini shield and some spring greenery out of the gold paper to make the focal point for my tag:
To make the focal point more cohesive, I added one of the Heirloom Roses that was inked with gold alcohol ink:
And here's a close up of that neutral texture paste that seems to blend in in the photo, but is definitely there:

It's all about "I" this week over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. What did "I" make me think of this week? An independent woman, and that is just what I created in my art journal using Dina Wakley's Face In the Crowd set.
These ladies are so fun to play with in an art journal, and you can see from the page that I changed the look of this one just by adding some paint and giving her a new hair style. Her dress? It is made of bits of torn and painted deli paper that I adhered with matte medium and a brush. I then outlined the figure with black paint and gave her some arms.

Colorful Distress Technique Tags
Have you purchased the Tim Holtz Distress products but are not completely sure how to use them all? Join Cheiron for this fun technique class and experiment with all of the products in the Ranger Distress line, while learning some of Cheiron’s favorite techniques. We will be using Distress Inks, Paints, Sprays and Stains and even play around with one of the new custom ink pads. You will build a stash of sample tags that can be used for reference over and over again.

Cheiron is back with another installment of her popular mixed media card class. This time we will be using all the latest Tim Holtz products, stamps and textured surfaces to create our mixed media cards. Spend the evening trying out new products and techniques, and go home with finished works of art that can be sent through the mail!

Today I am so thrilled to be part of the celebration of the 10th Blogiversary of my very dear and talented creative friend Jenn Shurkus. If you don't know her, you should stop on over to her blog and take a look at her wonderful work. Jenn is a card maker, mixed media artist and wonderful teacher - she hosts fabulous Loft Art Retreats at her loft in Rhode Island. If you ever have the chance to spend the day at one of these retreats, do it - they are so much fun!
I love all of Jenn's creations, especially her mixed media work. Her altered canvases (which she also sells on etsy) are some of my favorites, and this FOCUS canvas has to be my favorite yet. I love every thing about it (especially the colors) and loved this step by step post by Jenn on how to create it. Besides being a great artist, she is also a great teacher:
I created a similar canvas using Jenn's step by step directions, with a similar woodblock word and paints in my favorite color palette...rainbow:
I would have never tried mixed media projects or ventured into the world of "artsy fartsy" if it weren't for Jenn. She has always encouraged me to take classes, get messy, and not to be afraid of making a mistake. Thanks so much Jenn and Happy 10th! Can't wait to see what you create in the next 10 years :)

I have had these mini mason jars for a while. They are super fun just to store things in, but I wanted to make a small display piece with one. I made the figure inside using a Tim Holtz Salvaged Doll and stamping, cutting and adhering wings from one of the butterflies in the Watercolor Cling set. I filled the jar with pearls that had been colored with alcohol inks and colored my Letterpress with similar colors of Distress Paint.

This week the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is all about Coffee or Tea. I usually drink coffee in the morning, and tea at night. Whenever my sister comes to stay the night, we catch up over a cup of tea. I thought the Tim Holtz Sizzix Tea Time Die would be perfect to make a card for her:
I made the background using one of the papers from the Wallflower paper pad, and gave it some painty layers with stencils, stamping in paint, and bit of paint spatter with my Liquitex splatter brush (it sure is fun to use).
I cut the tea cups out of the cork paper from the Tim Holtz Textured Surfaces, then painted them with Distress paints. Once they were dry, I added some patterns to them by stamping another layer of Distress paint on with the Distress Damask Cling Stamps.
