Hi crafty friends, welcome to this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week our challenge is Art Journal and we are challenging you to create an art journal page, doodle in your journal, make some tags in your journal or anything else that you can think of that goes with the theme...

Today I created a simple art journal page. To begin, I painted some Lucky Clover Distress Paint onto the Screwed stencil, sprayed it with water and printed on the page to create a spot for a focal point. I added some more stenciling with the Digits stencil and Black Soot Paint and the Stars stencil with Fossilized Amber Paint. I added the focal image from Photobooth over a piece of stitched book paper from my stash. I cut circles from the Typeset collage paper and added them. I added a few bits of Ephemera and a Small Talk sticker. Then I used my paint brush and a black Scribble Stick to add splatter to the page. I cut a few tiny hearts from my scrap stash to finish it.

I have created two cards in two different styles with these dies using some of my favorite Tim Holtz products! The first card is a modern rainbow in a softer palette than I usually work with. I see a lot of this lighter palette in home decor (especially for kids) and I love it. 

To create this card, I stamped the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Tiny Text stamps (I left the entire set on the backing) onto a panel of Distress Watercolor Cardstock using Antique Linen Distress Ink. I also inked the edges of the paper with the ink. To create my rainbow, I die cut the Rainbow die from Distress Watercolor cardstock that I had placed onto a Sizzix foam adhesive sheet for dimension.


I inked the rainbow with Distress Oxides: Tattered Rose, Fossilized Amber, Rusty Hinge, Speckled Egg and Lucky Clover. I adhered the rainbow to the panel. Then I cut the word smile by cutting a piece of black cardstock that had been attached to a Sizzix adhesive sheet, adhered that to the card as well. I matted the panel onto a kraft frame, then onto a white notecard. 

For my second card, I created a vibrant rainbow using Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks and Alcohol Ink Silver Sparkle Cardstock.


I took a panel of Black Alcohol Ink cardstock and cut the rainbow out of the side of the card, and the sentiment out of the bottom. I cut another rainbow out of the silver sparkle cardstock and colored it with Alcohol Inks in Gumball, Tangerine, Sunshine Yellow, Laguna and Purple Twilight. When they were dry, I inlaid them into the black cardstock. I also cut the sentiment out of white cardstock and paper pieced that in. To finish the card, I added a cloud cut from white felt.

This week I was inspired to make a Tim Holtz Etcetera Tag in Ocean colors using Distress Paint, stamps and stencils. I painted the tag in all of my favorite colors of DIstress Paint, then I used the Stitches and Dotted Stencils to add texture. I stamped on the tag using Archival Distress Inks and the Grunged and Media Marks 1 stamps. I addded some Imagery from the Sealife stamp set and painted it in. To create my sentiment, I used the Tall Text stamps and cut each letter out and inked the edges. I used a Starfish from the DIna Wakley Media Ocean Chipboard pieces to finish it off.

Continuing along with my goal to 'Get Cracking on Christmas' all year long, by creating my Christmas cards with a few crafty friends throughout the year! If you want to see how it all started, go to my original post here.

I'm happy to be able to share a Christmas card this month along with my friend Jenn. Be sure to visit her blog to check out the fabulous cards she has made. Today I have a card using lots of stamps from Neat and Tangled with a fun background. I cut a piece of Simon Says Stamp Sea Glass cardstock and stamped it with the Neat and Tangled Holiday Wishes cling stamp in Sea Glass ink. I dried the panel with a heat tool to make sure the Ink was dry, then I ran my embossing magic pouch over it and stamped the Delicate Dots with Versamark ink and heat embossed them in white. I stamped and embossed the sentiment from Classic Christmas onto a black strip. Finally, I colored the die cut flower from Classic Christmas with DIstress Ink Reinkers in Candied Apple, Evergreen Bough and Fossilized Amber. I colored the flower an additional 2 times and cut out 2 layers of the flower and foam taped them to the first die cut to give it added dimension.

simon says stamp: early birds

Hi crafty friends, welcome to this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! Thank you for joining us us for last week's Play with Paint Challenge, and we hope you will join us again this week for the Early Birds Challenge. This week our challenge is Early Birds and we are challenging you to add a feathered friend or maybe you could interpret the theme as an early morning sunrise, or maybe you can think of something else!

Today, I used one of my FAVORITE new birds...the Tim Holtz Sizzix Colorize Arthur. This guy is one of the new Sizzix Seasonal dies for Halloween, but I can tell he is going to be a favorite all year long. To create Arthur, I took the die out of the packages and separated the dies by color family. If you have not used Colorize dies before, they are etched with the colors and a number on the back of the die. For instance, Arthur has Purple 1, Purple 2...all the way through 5 because he is purple on the packaging. I just substituted blues for my card (and a bit of brown). But cutting and laying ALL your pieces out in advance really makes it easy to assemble. There is a great video on the Sizzix You Tube channel as well to help you assemble him. 

 

I cut all of the pieces for Arthur and layered him together. Then I assembled him, one of my new favorite tools to use to pick up and layer the tiny little pieces is the Studio Katia embellishment wand...it has just the right amount of 'stick' to pick up the tiny pieces and layer them onto each other. I bought a white replacement tip just to make sure color did not get onto my card pieces. For the branches, I cut them out of Tim Holtz Woodgrain Cardstock and sprayed the bigger branch with Gathered Twigs Distress Spray stain and the smaller with a combo of Antique Linen and Brushed Corduroy Distress Spray Stains. I also used the spectacles from the Santa's Wish die and cut them out of Metallic cardstock. 

 

Once Arthur was assembled, I cut the Falling Stars die out of yellow cardstock and then adhered it to a black mat using foam tape. Once that was done, I adhered it to a black cardstock mat, then adhered Arthur and the branches and added a Big Talk Snarky Sticker to complete the card.

altenew: paint a flower iris

 

Hi there crafty friends. Today I have another card project that I completed as part of the Altenew Educator Certification Program. This card was created based on techniques from the Impressive Heat Embossing class. I based my card on the first lesson which is embossing for coloring. I love heat embossing when coloring because it is an easy way to help me stay in the lines, especially when watercoloring. I combined the new to me Paint A Flower: Iris stamp set with the Altenew Artists 24 Color Pan Watercolor set. 

To start I embossed the Iris in Gold Embossing Powder and colored in the Irises in shades of reds and oranges by wetting each area I wanted to color and dropping the color in to that section. I let each area dry and was careful to color areas that were dry on either side for each section. I colored in the petals first and once they were dry, I completed the leaves. When the Iris coloring was completed, I added a wash of the Crystal Water blue paint all around the Iris, letting the color fade out at the top. The embossing really helps to keep the wash from getting on to the flowers. Once the panel was dry, I stamped the sentiment in Archival Ink. 

To finish the card, I masked off the flower and the sentiment and added Altenew Antique Gold Metallic Spray, Jet Black Spray, and Pure White Spray by dipping a clean paintbrush into each spray and splattering it on the card.

Hi crafty friends! After a very long break, I am continuing on with my Altenew Educator Certification Program. I am glad I took some time away and continued on when I had time to really focus on the material. For this card, I took ideas and inspiration from the Color Your Day class by Therese Calvird. I took my inspiration from Lesson 2 in this class and used analogous colors on the color wheel (groups of 3 colors that are next to each other on the color wheel) including red, orange, and red-orange (and a bit of yellow) for a soft and warm palette. I also took inspiration from Lesson 5 and used a new medium (DIstress Reinkers) that I have not colored or stamped with before. For me, this took a bit of time and patience to paint, but in the end I was really pleased with the result. I used the gorgeous Statement Flowers Stamp as the focal image of my card. 

To color my card, I used Tim Holtz Distress Reinkers in Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, Dried Marigold and a bit of Squeezed Lemonade for the flowers. For the petals, I used Crushed Olive and Twisted Citron. For these you only need the tiniest drop of reinker mixed with water as they are super concentrated. Keep in mind that you can also mix colors together to get different, in between colors. 

To begin, I stamped the Statement Flowers stamp in Antique Linen Distress Ink onto watercolor paper. Then I started painting the petals by adding a wash of water over each petal and filling it in with the colors drying between each layer and building up the dark areas. Once the painting was dry, I cut it out with the Statement Flowers die. To finish the card, I adhered it to a panel of striped paper, then solid paper in the coordinating color. I created a thin sentiment strip using the Sentiment Strips stamp set and adhered a few sequins to complete it.

For my project this week, I created a card sprayed and stenciled with the Dina Wakley Gloss Sprays in Lemon, Lime and Turquoise onto Cotton Watercolor Paper, then added flowers from the Good Idea set that were 'painted' in with Scribble Sticks using a wet brush to pick up the scribble sticks and apply it to the image. I also used the back of my paintbrush on the back of the stick to give a little "splatter" to the backgound.
