simon says stamp born to sparkle blog hop: day 1

Now onto the cards. I have of course done a three for all using the new XL Rose Bouquet stencil which is an approximately 6 x 9 and perfect for those slimline cards that we all love! I have three different looks for you today using this stencil...

The first is a slimline in the simplest blue and white. I have used the XL Rose Bouquet stencil along with Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide and some Iridescent Gina K Glitz Glitter Gel. Once it was dry, I cut the panel using the Slimline Nested dies. I adhered the panel to the card base with foam tape and added the Thank You sentiment from the XL Greeting 2 stamp set. To make the sentiment as glittery as my card, I stamped in the Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide and embossed it with Ranger Holographic Embossing Powder. 

For the second look, I cut a panel from the Chunky A2 Scalloped dies.  I applied texture paste through the XL Rose Bouquet stencil. Then I used Distress Spray Stains in Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron and Salvaged Patina and sprayed the entire panel and then let it dry. I added a white embossed senitment to black cardstock from the XL Greetings 2 set to make it pop.

And then something much softer for the last look. For the last card, I created a pale pink background using Distress Inks and Oxides (Tattered Rose and Kitsch Flamingo). Then I went over the panel with the XL Rose Bouquet stencil and DIstress Texture Paste in Matte. Once it was dry, I added the new Congrats On A Line die which I cut from white and white glitter cardstocks and layered them together for a little extra sparkle.

Hello crafty friends, welcome to another Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! Thank you to all that joined us last week for our Bright, Cheerful Colors challenge and we hope you will join us again this week! This week our challenge is 'Add A Quote' and I have done that using Tim Holtz Mini Marquee Letters and Small Talk. I took a piece of White DIstress Mixed Media Heavystock and colored it with Distress Spray Stains in Salvaged Patina, Tattered Rose, Kitsch Flamingo and Pumice Stone. I love the candy colors this combination makes! 

When the panel was dry, I adhered it to a #8 Etcetera tag using Distress Collage Medium. I added some stamping and stenciling to the tag and then added a piece of Crochet that I had die cut, a Paper Doll and the sentiment. Then I splattered the entire tag with Distress Paints in Picket Fence and Black Soot.

new tim hotlz distress: salvaged patina

You know it's going to be a great weekend when you have a new color of Tim Holtz Distress to play with. If you missed Tim's You Tube live today, I am happy to share a project with you featuring the newest color in the Distress Line...Salvaged Patina, and what a beauty it is! It pairs amazingly with all the other colors in the line. 

I was thrilled to be able to create with this wonderful new color, and wanted to try something a little bit different than a card in my colorful style. I used a piece of Dina Wakley Media Board which I cut to 4 x 8 1/2 with my large Tonic trimmer. Then I layered on the Distress Paints in Salvaged Patina, Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, Chipped Sapphire and Dusty Concord. I added one color at a time to each section, blending on to the canvas with my finger, adding bit of water and drying with a heat tool between each color. For some of the colors (Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Chipped Sapphire), I removed some of the paint by adding a stencil on top of the patch of color and wiping it with a baby wipe, then drying it. You can see that in the top right with the stencils and on top of the Blueprint Sketch with the Mini DIgits stencil. 

I wanted to add more interest to the canvas so I took out my favorite Stampers Anonymous Media Marks 1 and Media Marks 2 sets. I used Distress Archival Inks and some Picket Fence Distress Paint to stamp images all over my canvas (Be sure if you stamp with paint to wash your stamps off right away). Then I let the canvas dry. 

To finish my canvas, I did a few more things. I cut the Punchinella looking pieces from Black Cardstock using the Sizzix Mixed Media dies and tore them in pieces to fit the canvas. I applied the pieces using DIstress Collage Medium and a large Dina Wakley Brush.  To create the focal point, I cut the Faceted Heart and inked it with Salvaged Patina DIstress Ink. Then I adhered it together using Distress Collage Medium. I just hold it together for a bit and then let it dry on its own. To create the shiny texutre, I sprayed Distress Resist Spray on the Heart after placing it inside my splat box. Be careful when spraying this, it is like liquid glue so you don't want to get it all over other stuff on your work surface. Then I added Salvaged Patina DIstress Embossing Glaze to add shine to the texture and heat the heart with my embossing gun to emboss it. 


Finally, I adhered the heart to the canvas using Distress Collage medium. I added a Theories Quote Chip and 2 Hardware Heads that I painted with Salvaged Patina DIstress Paint. I had so much fun making this project in all my favorite rainbow colors. I hope it brings some joy to your day!

You know this one is right up my alley! I always love to use bright cheerful colors.  

This week I used a gellli print from my stash that was created with the Tim Holtz Dotted, Digits and Ringer stencils and lots of fun DIstress Paint colors. I added a Photobooth Photo, a Numeric metal embellishment that I painted with Crushed Olive Distress Paint and some small Snarky Talk Stickers. I added a few hearts from the Falling Hearts dies to finish it.

get cracking on christmas: april 2021

Hi there crafty friends! Welcome to the March 2021 Get Cracking on Christmas Challenge. This is a fun monthly challenge that was started by my friend Jenn Shurkus to challenge people to work on their Christmas cards all year long. I know that my biggest problem last year was addressing ALL the envies, and I also ran out of cards so I was making them at the last minute too. So I plan to do a dozen envelopes each month as well. We have been doing this challenge for a few years and it really helps me to get out those supplies that should have received a little more love during the holidays. 

This month I have a fun card using some Simon Says Stamp Exclusives that I NEVER EVEN OPENED last year. I stamped and colored the Santa's Sleigh Ride set in a non-traditional color palette with a simple sentiment. I stuck to pinks, brown and blues (and added a tiny bit of green for the trees). 

For the sky, I blended Distress Oxides in Speckled Egg and Chipped Sapphire. I went over them with the Falling Stars stencil and some Gina K Glitz Glitter Gel in white...these are the perfect tiny starts for this type of background. Once the background was dry, I added some glitter to the cut out houses using a Quickie Glue Pen and Distress Rock Candy Glitter. Then I foam taped them to the background. To finish my card, I cut the CZ Design Peace die out of pink cardstock and also adhered it with foam tape. Plain, simple and this one would also be easy to create as a batch of cards over a few days!

Hi there crafty friends! Welcome to another Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you so much for joining us in our Layer It Challenge last week and we hope you will play along with us again this week. This week our challenge is Not A Card, so make anything but - an art journal, a home decor piece, a tag...it really is up to you. You know I love making ATCs so I thought I would make a set with the new Funky Insects dies since I have been waiting to cut the entire set out. 

To create these ATCs, I cut 4 cards out of Tim Holtz Distress White Heavystock. I added different (rainbow) colors of Distress Paint and dried it. I removed some of the paint by using the Dotted stencil and wiping a baby wipe over it. Then I added gesso over some parts to tone the colors down and dried the cards with my heat tool. I stamped images from the Media Marks 1 and Media Marks 2 stamp sets in bright colors of DIstress Archival Inks. I inked the edges of the cards with Black Soot Distress Ink using a Mini Foam Blending Tool. 

To create the Funky Insects, I painted them with Distress Inks that I smooshed onto my Glass Mat. On parts of each insect, I used a Ranger Distress Embossing Pen and Distress Embossing Glaze to create some texture and shine on each one. To finish my cards, I added a Small Talk sticker to each one.

tim holtz sizzix: welcome spring wallhanging

Hello there crafty friends! I hope you all had a Happy Easter if you celebrated :) I just took down all the Eater decorations and am ready for some Spring decor. I created this small wallhanging for Spring with brand new Chapter 2 Tim Holtz Sizzix dies, mixing them with some of my favorites from Chapter 1. I combined Brushstroke Flowers 1, 2 and 3 along with the Alphanumeric Stretch Lower and Alphanumeric Bold dies.

This project was super easy to create. I got a small wood frame (made to alter for your favorite craft projects) from the craft store, I think this one was about $4 dollars. I painted the inside of the wood frame with Evergreen Bough Distress Paint and the outer frame with Picket Fence Distress Paint and let it dry. 

I selected a color palette for my project and cut a bunch of flowers and leaves from Sizzix surfaces felt, glued the pieces with layers and put them aside. I cut the word Spring from the Alphanumeric stretch lower dies from white cardstock backed with adhesive foam for dimension. I also cut the word welcome from the Alphanumeric Bold from black cardstock backed with adhesive foam. 

To assemble this piece, I added my foam backed sentiment with Distress Collage Matte Medium, then I arranged the flowers around the frame. When all the pieces were adhered, I replaced the jute that came with the frame with some May Arts twine.

Hi there crafty friends! Welcome to another Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you so much for joining us in our Spring/Easter Challenge last week and I hope you will join us again this week for our newest challenge, Layer It! 

This week, I created a fun using another inky background that I created inspired by the Tim Hotlz You Tube live. I monoprinted with Distress Inks and the Ringer stencil. I added some Entomology Tissue Wrap colored with Antique Linen Distress Spray Stain as my second layer, then added some transparent wings and a paper doll. To complete my tag, I added some Ephemera, a Clippings sticker and a die cut Sizzix Countdown Thinlits Number.

tim holtz: sizzix under the sea colorize

Hello there crafty friends! I was thrilled to be asked to create a few cards with the brand new Tim Holtz Sizzix Under the Sea Colorize 1 and Under the Sea Colorize 2 dies. These are about some of the cutest little sea creatures I have ever seen. I have 2 cards to share with you today using these brand new dies, mixed with some other Sizzix favorites. 

For my first card, I created a Slimline card with an ocean panel that I colored with Distress Inks. I cut sea creatures from both sets from solid colored cardstock and created a fun little scene. I created some seaweed using the Funky Floral set, then added the sea creatures and some Distress Rock Candy Glitter. 

For the second card, I used the Splat dies over the Bubbling background to create a fun shaker card. I created the panel with Distress Inks and some splatter. The greenery was created with the Funky Nature dies...and the rocks were made by cutting out the Bubbling die and coloring them with grey and browns. I added a piece of acetate to make a shaker with a bunch of the Sizzix sequin mixes and added a sentiment from the Crazy Talk set.
