new tim holtz distress: prize ribbon

Hi there crafty friends! What an exciting weekend, time for a brand new color of Distress…hope you like Prize Ribbon as much as I do! I welcome any new color into the Distress family. When I get a new color, I like to swatch it out to see where it fits in with the color family and also like to see what other fun color combinations I can make with the colors that I already own (and that would be all of them).

Today, I have 3 fun cards to share with 3 totally different color combination looks. I will go through each card and tell you how I made it and show my swatch cards of colors for each. The best thing about these swatch cards is that I can take them out and play around with them just like paint samples to make color combinations or to see if the colors look good together before actually putting all the effort into making a project. For the first card, I kept it simple just blending 3 colors: Prize Ribbon, Salvaged Patina and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxides. I used the Vine Canopy Embossing Folder and blended the Oxides right onto the folder before running it through my die cut machine. I added a few spritzes of Distress Mica Spray in Brushed Pewter and then added some Etched Laurel Leaves die cuts cut from both white and vellum cardstock. I finished the card with an Encouraging Words sentiment strip.

For the second card, I wanted to play around with some Distress Inks as Watercolors. I added some of the ink to my glass mat (by pressing the ink pads into it) and picked it up with a paintbrush and painted a pattern onto Distress Watercolor cardstock using Prize Ribbon, Tattered Rose, Crackling Campfire and Cracked Pistachio. I dried the paper between each color with a heat tool to prevent the colors from mixing together too much leaving some white space. When the final color was dry, I added some stamping using the Tim Holtz Mini Media Marks stamps and Distress Archival Ink in Hickory Smoke. I cut the paper using an older Simon Says Stamp heart die, but you could use the Large Holiday Shapes or any other small heart dies you have to get a similar effect. After I cut the hearts, I did add a little more color to a couple of the hearts using my paintbrush. I added them all to a Paper Bag card base using foam tape and finished the card with a CZ Design Love Reverse Sentiment Strip.

For my third card, I wanted a super bright palette. And why not blue leaves? They really seem to make this pattern pop. I stamped the Outline Leaves stamp and embossed in in gold. Then I painted it in using Distress Inks in Prize Ribbon, Lucky Clover, Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, Twisted Citron, Dried Marigold and painted the entire background with Salvaged Patina. I finished the card by spattering it with some Prize Ribbon and adding the CZ Design Swoopy Thank You that I embossed in gold.

These are ALL terrific color combos for this new color and I will be sure to save this post for when I get my hands on this new color. You are so right - this shade really makes the other colors POP! I love all of these cards....couldn't pick a favorite if I had to. And so many different techniques and styles.....you are such a versatile talent! Thanks, as always for this amazing inspiration!

Hi Cheiron, beautiful cards! I was hoping to see how to do the one with crackle paste. I even ordered the stencil! Do you just rub the color on after the paste dries?
Also, I love the simple stamps cards, the painted flowers and the sea life.

Hi Betty! I will have a tutorial for each one in the next two weeks, so keep an eye out. For the paste you add the embossing glaze to the crackle while its still wet, then heat emboss after it dries :)
