simon says stamp monday challenge: make your own background

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for playing along with us last week in the Mixed Media challenge and we hope you will join us again this week too :) 

This week our challenge is Create Your Own Background, and I created one using Distress Texture Paste and the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Halloween Script stencil on Black Alcohol Ink Cardstock. Once the paste was dry, I added Distress Mica Stains in all the Halloween colors over the top and let it dry. To finish my tag, I added a Paper Doll, some Ephemera and a Quote Chip from the Baseboards pack 'fastened' with two Hardware Heads.

This week our challenge is Mixed Media, one that is right up my alley. Get out your paints, sprays, pastes or whatever you have in your crafty space and have fun creating. I created a fun tag using some of the new Tim Holtz Halloween Idea-ology in non-tradtional Halloween Colors. I stamped the background of my tag using the Eccentric stamps. I stitched around my tag and added Halloween Paper Dolls, Ephemera and a sentiment from Baseboards. I added some spritz and splatter using Halloween Distress Mica Stains and added some Halloween Fringe to the top of my tag.

simon says stamp: fun with stencils

This week our challenge is Fun with Stencils and I created a mixed media tag using Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous stencils - Dotted and Digits and Idea-ology....I painted and stenciled a Distress Tag, added stenciling using gesso and Distress Archival Ink. Then I added a piece of Idea-ology Photobooth, a stamp from Stamp Collector (cut with the Postale dies), a pointy finger and a sentiment from Noteworthy.

tim holtz halloween distress 2022

Hello crafty friends! I just wanted to share with you that the new Tim Holtz Halloween Distress is available NOW at Simon Says Stamp! There are new colors of Distress Mica Stains, DIstress Crayons in the same colors, Crypt Grit Paste (in a larger size for the season) and BLACK WOODGRAIN CARDSTOCK!!! These products are only available for the season so be sure to get your hands on some today for your collection.

I will also have some projects coming up this week, since I decided to create backgrounds along with Tim today over on his You Tube live and plan to turn them into some card projects!

tim holtz halloween sizzix 2022: feathery be fearless card

Hello crafty friends! I am back to share another new make from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween You Tube live. For this one, I have a card that is good for any time of the year using the new Feathery dies. I love feather dies and I can't wait to play with these some more and incorporate them into all types of projects. 

For this card, I took a piece of Mixed Media Heavystock and sprayed it with water then Antique Linen Distress Stain and added more water while drying with my heat tool. Once the panel was dry, I added stamping from the Eccentric stamp set by placing the entire stamp set rubber side up, inking with Frayed Burlap Distress Archival (leaving some areas bare) and pressing my cards tock panel onto it for a super subtle background. Then I added some stitching around the panel. 

For the feathers from Feathery, I cut them out using my Foldaway, and then sprayed each one with a different color of Distress Mica Stain from the new Halloween sets #3 and #4. Once the feathers were dried with my heat tool, I inked the edges of each one with Black Soot Distress Ink to make them stand out. I used my Sizzix shaping kit (yep, the same one I use to shape flowers) to bend and mold the feathers a bit. 

I added the Feathers to the panel, then took the same colors of Distress Mica Stain I used to color them and added splatter over the panel, and also added a bit of white splatter. To finish my card, I added the panel to a kraft notecard then added the sentiment from the Noteworthy stamp set.

This week our challenge is Spritz and Splatter and I have created a card with and Alcohol inked background full of both Spritz and Splatter using a splatter brush and alcohol along with Foundry Wax Splatter to add interest to my card panel.

tim holtz sizzix halloween 2022: whimsical trick or treat panel

Hello there crafty friends! I hope you were able to catch the Tim Holtz You Tube live today featuring the 2022 Sizzix Halloween and see the inspiration from all the makers :) So much goodness to see and if you missed it, be sure to catch the replay. All of the new Sizzix Halloween dies and embossing folders are available now to purchase. 

I love all things Halloween especially the candy and turned one of the Idea-ology Vignette Display Panels into a whimsically colored Halloween home decor piece. Let's take a closer look, and I will walk you through how I created each section of panel.

Let's talk about the main thing you need to get these fun colors...one of my favorite materials to create Sizzix projects with, painted papers. To create these I simply cut a bunch of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock and painted them using Distress Paints in Twisted Citron, Carved Pumpkin, Kitsch Flamingo and Dusty Concord and let them dry really well before creating. I love the matte look that it gives to the project. For the black pieces I used the Kraft Stock Stack in Black. 

Let's take a closer look at each panel: 

Panel 1: (witch) Witch from the Retro Halloween set in Black and Twisted Citron on Carved Pumpkin Painted Paper


Panel 2: (Here for the Candy) Twisted Citron paper cut Bold Text Halloween Sentiment, back with black 


Panel 3: (Candy Apple) on painted Dusty Concord paper candy apple made with Kitsch Flamingo and Twisted Citron. Stamp the dusty concord panel with Media Marks stamps using Distress Archival Ink. Once assembled, add Distress Collage Medium and Rock Candy Distress Glitter to the "candy" part of the apple. 


Panel #4: (Boo) Boo from Halloween Bold Text cut from Black Kraft Stock and backed with Carved Pumpkin painted paper. 


Panel #5: (Cat) Twisted Citron panel. Stamping Media Marks using Archival Ink on BG. Cat black with Dusty Concord painted papers. 


Panel # 6: (gummy candy eyes) Carved Pumpkin Panel with Media Marks stamping. Assemble eyes then coat with Glossy Accents and let dry. 

Panel 7: (Trick or Treat) Trick or Treat from Halloween Bold Text run through the Woven Texture Fades. Dusty Concord backed with Kitsch Flamingo.


Panel 8: (Candy Corn Panel): Twisted Citron Painted Paper, stamp Media Marks stamps with Archival Distress Ink. Add Candy Corn layered white, Carved Pumpkin, Kitsch Flamingo



Panel 9: (Jack O'Lantern): Kitsch Flamingo painted panel, embossed with Woven Texture Fade. Jack O' Lantern cut from Carved Pumpkin and Black. 

 
Once each panel was created, I inked all of the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink and then adhered them to the panel, some with foam tape to vary the heights. I painted each side of the panel in a coordinating Distress color.

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the Back To School Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week we would like you to join us in celebrating our 12th Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 

Can you believe that this challenge has been going for 12 years!! The time has flown by hasn’t it! We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our fellow crafters who have joined us over the years and we hope you will continue to join us!

As it’s the first Monday of the month we are showcasing a brand/company. This week we are all using some fabulous products from the fabulous Dina Wakley. You don’t have to use them to join in with the challenge but if you have them we would love to see them used.

For my card this week, I created a monoprint stenciled background using Dina's Connected Dots stencil and Gloss Sprays over a piece of Typed Media Ledgers.  Once the background was dry, I stenciled over it with the Pieces stencil and some white paint to add more texture. I added a focal image of the girl from the Make Things Happen set and colored her with Scribble Sticks and water. To complete the card, I gave her a hat sprayed with Ancient gloss spray onto a paper bag and added a pom pom and finally finished the card with a sentiment from the Be Bold set.
