simon says stamp monday challenge: christmas

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for playing along with us last week in the  challenge and we hope you will join us again this week too :) 

This week our challenge is Christmas and I have combined the Tim Holtz Sizzix Trim A Tree along with the Winter Woodlands stamps to create this colorful rainbow tree tag.

I tried to take some step by step photos this week in case you want to follow along! 


Step 1: Cut some panels of Distress Watercolor Cardstock. Inside of a Splat Box, spray them with Distress Mica Stains and let dry or dry with a heat tool. 


Step 2: Lay out all the pieces for each tree, and ink the edges with a contrasting color of Distress Ink. I'll share all the colors I used below. 


Step 3: To create smaller trees just "trim" the tree under the score line on the more solid images. See Tim's You Tube on how to do this over on his video (about min 24:40) in the video. 

Step 4: To get the edges of those layers extra inky, slide a piece of scrap paper underneath while you are inking :) Then adhere all your tree pieces together. 


Step 5: Colors to shade edges: Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon, Fossilized Amber, Rustic Wilderness 

Step 6: Colors to shade edges: Lucky Clover, Uncharted Mariner, Dusty Concord

Step 7: Stamp background stamp from Rustic wilderness onto a 3 3/4 x 6 panel using Pumice Stone Distress Oxide. 

Step 8: Emboss image using Pumice Stone Distress Embossing Glaze and emboss with embossing heat tool. Repeat two more times so you have 3 of these panels. 

Step 9: Create woodgrain panels for your background (I did this but in the end found it was not necessary because it all got covered up). Cut woodgrain paper into 1 1/2 inch strips and ink the edges, then cover your medium Etcetera Tag. 

Step 10: Trim excess off of tag, sand edges with a sanding disk to make them smooth and ink the outside edges of your tag with Pumice Stone Distress Ink.

Step 11: Spray the embossed panels with Pumice Stone Distress Spray Stain and let dry or dry with heat tool. 

Step 12: Add stands to bottom of trees (I sprayed mine with Pumice Stone Distress Spray Stain and Frozen Fog Distress Mica Stain). 

Step 13: Add panels to tag...one will hang off. Stamp and emboss sentiment from Winter Woodlands and add to tag. 

Step 15: Adhere trees to panel. I used super sticky foam dots. 

Step 16: Add Hardware Heads colored with Mushroom Alcohol Ink to panels, Add Snowfall Grit Paste to bottom of panels using a palette knife and then splatter the entire tag with Sterling Foundry Wax, being careful to avoid your sentiment (I covered mine up while splattering). Let the whole thing dry completely and hang it up to enjoy some holiday cheer!

halloween roundup: a few of my favorites

Hi there crafty friends! Today I have a sort of a crafty lookback from the past few years featuring some of my favorite Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous and Sizzix projects. Hope these will provide some inspiration to you as you are getting into the Halloween making season...there is tons of frightful, some delightful and one super creepy card! 

Too Old for This Sheet 

This card was inspired by a sweatshirt I saw at Target and I knew it had to be made into a card as soon as I got home. I cut the ghost from black and white cardstocks and then cut out my letters after backing the cardstock with Sizzix adhesive sheets to make placing them a breeze.

Just A Bunch Of Hocus Pocus

This card features a background of Distress Inks and Distress Mica Stain with a bunch of stars from the Halloween Doodles set stamped all over the background. Once my background was dry, I stamped the sentiment from the Bold Frights over top. This is a super easy one to create with any Halloween Backgrounds you may have on hand.

By The Light of the Moon 

The fun background on this card was created with Distress Mica Stains - I used some of the Christmasy colors, a little masking on the moon and lots of stamping and splatter over top.

Happy Halloween

This card uses my favorite stamp set from this year, Tiny Frights. To create this card, I stamped all of the images in a pattern onto my pink cardstock using Black Soot Archival Ink. I then stamped them onto colored cardstock, cut them out and paper pieced them onto the images I had already stamps. Time consuming, but relaxing and oh so worth it!

Something Wicked This Way Comes

This card uses the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Moon Masks with Crypt Grit Paste and lots of inky blending for the background. This year I would definitely switch it up for some glow paste :)

Layered Dots Trio
These are super easy and fun to put together and you can make SO many different color combos perfect for almost any occasion. I kept these really simple with a bold saying and one tiny accent to make them even more fun!

Creepy Eye Guy

One of my all time favorite creepy cards. I did ome super careful cutting with an x-acto knife and layered the stamping and adding a creepy eye to make it look really real! Once my images were

tim holtz sizzix christmas inspiration (part 2)

Hello there crafty friends! I have a brand new project to share with you today using some of the brand new Tim Holtz Sizzix Christmas dies. If you did not get to catch the Tim Holtz Sizzix Christmas live today featuring makes from all of the makers, be sure to check it out, there is SO much inspiration. The entire collection of dies and embossing folders is really amazing.

This card was created using the brand new Trim A Tree Colorize dies. I started by stamping the Tiny Text Christmas as an entire background in Frayed Burlap onto Distress Kraft Heavystock. Then I stamped and embossed one of the sentments from the Mini Bold Tidings set in black then splattered my card with paint. For the snow, I used some paint as well. Once my card panel was dry, I added the assembled Trim a Tree onto the card panel. I used a TON of ornaments on mine, because that is my favorite kind of tree to see during the holidays. Then I added a thin layer of DIstress Collage Medium to the ornaments and covered them with glitter. You can do fewer ornaments...and so many other color combos too!

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for playing along with us last week in the  challenge and we hope you will join us again this week too :) 

This week our challenge is Delicious Drinks and I wanted to create a fun card for a friend who loves tea. I used the Tim Holtz Sizzix Cafe Colorize, and cut and assembled the tea cup in 3 different colors. For the background, I stamped and embossed the background from the Flurry and Pine Background duo stamp, embossed it with clear embossing powder on Distress Watercolor Cardstock and sprayed it with Distress Spray Stains in Tea Dye and Hickory Smoke. 

I created my own sentiment using the Alphanumeric Theory dies and then added it to the card with the cups stacked way up. As a final touch I handcut the tiny tea bag and added a heart from the Falling Hearts dies to complete it.

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for playing along with us last week in the  challenge and we hope you will join us again this week too :) 

This week our challenge is Architecture/Buildings and I have created a fun card using the buildings and clouds from the Christmas Cutouts dies. I cut all of the pieces out of Distress Watercolor Cardstock and lightly ink blended the buildings in a rainbow of Distress Inks and also added a little color to the clouds. I stamped the sentiment from the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Life Quotes stamps in Black Soot Distress Archival Ink, then arranged all of my pieces around it, popping up some of the houses and clouds with foam adhesive. Once the panel was created, I added foam adhesive to the back of it and adhered it to a card base.

simon says stamp monday challenge: pick a number

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for playing along with us last week and we hope you will join us again this week too :) 

This week our challenge is Pick A Number and I have created a fun mixed media birthday card using the Tim Holtz Numbered Texture Fades. I absolutely LOVE the dimension on this one and it is so fun to color. I ran it through my die cut machine to emboss it and then colored it with Distress Watercolor Pencils and a detailer water brush. Once the panel was dry, I added black and white splatter. 

To finish my card, I added an image from the Winged Things 1 stamps and a sentiment from the Note Quotes set also colored in with Distress Watercolor Pencils.

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for playing along with us last week in the Spring/Easter challenge and we hope you will join us again this week too :) 

This week our challenge is Stencil It and I have used one of my all time favorite Tim Holtz stencils to create a fun and colorful spring mixed media tag. I began with a layer of Typeset collage paper, added texture paste through the Dotted stencil and let it dry and then added Snippets and tons of color with Distress Spray Stains. I finished the tag with a butterfly from the Flutter stamp set and a Label sticker.

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for playing along with us last week in the Emboss It challenge and we hope you will join us again this week too :) 

This week our challenge is Whatever the Weather and I am all about the sunshine and rainbows! To create this clean and simple card, I ink blended a background of rainbow colored Distress Inks, added a sunshine from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Circle Play set, and some clouds from the Christmas Cutouts that I had blended with ink on the edges. I added splatter around the card in all the same rainbow colors and a simple sentiment from the Noteworthy set.

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for playing along with us last week in the Things With Wheels challenge and we hope you will join us again this week too :) 

This week our challenge is Things with Wings and I have used one of my all time favorite dies with Wings, the Tim Holtz Perspective Butterfly. I cut the Butterfly from Black Dura-Bright, then colored it with Alcohol Inks including Snow Cap Mixative, Fiesta, Sunshine Yellow and Valencia. I added just a bit of Gilded Alcohol Ink Alloy. 

For the base of the card I used Distress Black Heavystock and adhered the Butterfly to it using Distress Collage Medium then added Gilded Foundry Wax splatter by mixing a bit of splatter with some alcohol and splattering over the project with my paintbrush and heating it with my embossing gun when I was done. To finish, I added a Sentiment Label Sticker.
